Prescott Green Initiatives - Highlands Center Community Meeting

Are you interested in green initiatives for the community of Prescott and even within your own home?  The Greater Yavapai Provisional Branch of the US Green Building Council (USGBC) will be holding their first education session this week on Tuesday evening.  The event will take place from 6:30 to 8:30pm at The Highlands Center for Natural History.  You’ll have an opportunity to meet Yavapai area city officials, educators and USGBC member Architects, Planners and Builders.  The group will be sharing thoughts on their ideas for community green initiatives.

Prescott Green Building Speaker Series

Come learn more about your green building options in Prescott!  On June 6th at 7pm, Murphy’s Upstairs Restaurant, Pliny Fisk, Co-Director for Maximum Potential Building Systems, will share his experience.  Fisk has excelled in material and methods research such as: low-cost building systems development, and low impact materials usage including low carbon and carbon balanced cements.  He was the recipient of the US Green Building Council’s first Sacred Tree award in 2002.  This is the oldest non-profit in the US focusing on sustainable design and development.  They focus on responsible resource usage in areas such as materials, energy, water, waste and food.

Prescott Names a Green Building Specialist

Dan Fairbank was recently named the official "Green" Building Specialist for the City of Prescott.  He is also the Permit Specialist for the Prescott Building Department.  Dan will be an invaluable resource in helping Prescott homeowners to achieve renewable energy and green building goals.  He has valuable expertise in energy efficiency, weatherization techniques, alternative materials, rainwater harvesting, greywater systems, and more.  Dan is also knowledgeable about the International Energy Conservation Code and has a US Green Building Council LEED Certification.

He will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about green building in the Prescott area.  He will also serve as a liaison for information resources from many of the local professional associations. 

Keep your eyes open for a new green building column on Prescott eNews with details about local events, seminars and upcoming workshops.  We’re excited to have a knowledgeable Prescott community resource for the green movement and wish Dan well in this new endeavour.
