Eight different museums call Prescott AZ home including the Heritage Park Zoological Sanctuary, the Highlands Center for Natural History, and the Phippen Museum – Art of the American West.

Everybody’s hometown, Prescott Arizona, is a pretty special place.  Once compared to “Whoville” without the Grinch, this quaint, historic village is the perfect place to hunker down for the holidays.  Our Christmas city (declared as such by Gov. Arizona natives looking for a more traditional winter scene than the rest of the state can offer will find it here in Prescott.  Heavy sweaters and winter boots are necessary this year as the recent snow storm has covered many fragrant local evergreens with a glistening blanket and chilled the air.  Prescott’s many unique shops, restaurants and museums provide plenty to do for those visiting.

You’ll find a wonderful sense of community and many old Western traditions in our festive town – true cowboys, historic venues, and friendly folks.  Although many of our Prescott Christmas events have already been enjoyed, you can’t miss a visit to the lighted Courthouse Plaza or the gingerbread village! 

The gingerbread village will be showcased until December 29th at The Prescott Resort and Conference Center, 1500 State Route 69.  It is free to visit and kids can decorate their own cookies for free from 10-2 on Saturdays.

A very talented, award-winning photographer, Jody Miller, will be featured in an upcoming showcase at the Pony Expresso Cafe in Prescott.  She is widely published and has been featured at several local Prescott museums.  On Friday, December 12th from 6-9 pm, Jody’s work will be on display for Art Night at this cozy southwestern coffee house.  Art Night is a new monthly event at the Pony Expresso, the reception has been great!  This is the perfect time to enjoy some Prescott holiday cheer.

Jody specializes in Western photography including horses, cowboys and cowgirls. Tomorrow from 9am to 4pm the Benson Family Nature Store at The Highlands Center for Natural History will be holding their annual open house and pre-holiday sale!  This year you’ll find many great gift ideas for your outdoor loving family members!  Nature-related items and gifts baskets abound.  Goodies include such items as: books, toys, games, t-shirts, jewelry, and outdoor products for star watchers, naturalists, animal trackers, bird lovers and more!

Local artisans will also be in attendance showcasing their unique products.  Participants include:

• Local children’s book author, Connie Johnson, will be signing books
• Blind Bob will be selling Native American hide pouches and other wares
• Jillian VanNess will have recycled gift wrapping and stationery products
• Local photographer and jewelry maker, Marilyn Campbell, will have many pieces for sale
• Metal Sculptor, Rick Hartner (Sitting Duck Studios), will have several original nature sculptures available

The kids will also have the chance to do some “secret shopping” for their parents and friends.  Items are priced anywhere from $.50 to $10 in this special section of the store and volunteers are available to lend a helping hand!  So come on over and join in the Prescott holiday fun!

Donations of canned or boxed food are also being accepted on premises for the Yavapai Food Bank, please bring something to place in the collection box!

This Saturday, Prescott will be a buzz with activity as residents celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Prescott Valley.  This momentous event coincides with the traditional Kinetic Sculpture Race which will begin at 9:30am on Saturday morning.  There are all kinds of event for family fun this weekend.  The Prescott Valley Civic Center will house the World Arts Festival sponsored by Galpin Ford.  The festival features arts from around the world including music, crafts, visual and performing arts, demonstrations and youth activities.  Attendees will also be treated to a myriad of different ethnic foods as well as a beer and wine tasting garden.  Three music stages will setup and an antique custom car display will also be a highlight.  The Arizona Shakespeare Festival will also be performing "As You Like It" at 11:00 am. 

The Creative Energy Fair will being going on at Tim’s Toyota Center on both Saturday (10-5) and Sunday (10-3) featuring a ground level fireworks display.  All events are free to the public.

The Sharlot Hall Museum is celebrating it’s 80th anniversary this year!  To commemorate "The Mother of Arizona", Sharlot Mabridth Hall, the museum is offering a day packed with fun-filled and free events.  Free lectures, free tours and a film will be available at the museum’s newly opened library and archive.  Treat your mom to a day of fun and learning about Arizona’s history.
