Tomorrow Governor Jan Brewer will address the public from the Prescott City Hall at the corner of Cortez and Goodwin. She plans to discuss commentary made at the joint session of the Legislature today regarding Arizona’s budget crisis. The 2009-2010 budget needs to be cut by $3 billion when compared to the current budget (year end June 30th).
In January of this year $1.6 billion was cut and more than 1,000 state employees were laid off, cutting a myriad of services. At the same time budget cuts are necessary, Arizona state government is looking to improve the economy.
According to a press release issued by AZ Senate Majority Whip Pamela Gorman, the Senate wants to help. There may be consideration to reduce state regulatory burdens which would prevent arbitrary fees for employers and remove competition between government and private employers. Senate Bill 1466 aims to create a commission to help find areas of state government that the private sector can run more efficiently.
Hope to see you at the meeting!
