Prescott Water Conservation Program Successful!
With the recent city rate hikes and the general scarcity of natural resources, water conservation is on everyone’s minds. Rising costs have caused many to take a second look at what they can do to save water. Prescott’s City Water Conservation Coordinator can help! Willow Ridge is one of Prescott’s water conversation success stories. The complex manager coordinated with the city water conservation dept at the end of last year to implement a host of fixes in the complex - everything from routine leak repairs and irrigation fixes to the installation of low-flow shower heads. The hard work paid off! In the first nine months of 2008 the 134 unit complex dropped water use by over 46% and single-handedly saved 1.7 million gallons of water. This is just one of many success stories that can be heard around Prescott since the city started its aggressive conservation program several years ago.
Prescott water conservation couldn’t be better according to city water management analysts. A combination of water rate hikes and general conservation efforts has decreased large user water consumption by 69% (for accounts using more than 20,000 gallons per month). Prescott’s gallons per capita per day has decreased steadily from 161 gpcd in 2003 to 137 gpcd in 2008. Many of our citizens are taking advantage of the water conservation program - water audits and incentive applications for residential customers are up significantly.
Take advantage of Prescott’s water programs - there are substantial benefits to be gained! Congrats to everyone in the community who is working toward making a dent in the Prescott water conservation effort!
