Prescott Valley Mayor Brings Government Issues to Park View’s Eighth Grade

Mayor Harvey Skoog Recently Visited a Park View Middle School Class to Discuss Prescott Valley Political Process

Fred Tupkielewicz (fondly dubbed Mr. T) is the eighth grade civics teacher at Prescott Valley’s Park View Middle School.  He recently invited Mayor Skoog to discuss political process with his classes in an effort to help them with the Project Citizen competition in March at Northern Arizona University.  The students are following political processes - from recognizing a problem to implementing a solution.  Two classes have each chosen a project - unsupervised youth and speeding were selected this year.  The students have divided into groups to learn and research different parts of the political process.

The mayor was on hand to discuss Prescott’s current policy and measures to deal with speed offenders as well as youth programs and recreation opportunities.  Students will put their experiences with interviewing, organizational, research and reporting skills to the test during Project Citizen.  Each team will have a four minute presentation and 6 minutes of questioning from the judges.  They will also be judged on their storyboards and research scrapbooks.  They must present the entire process to achieving a workable solution.

The Project Citizen Competition is on March 6th - let’s wish these young local politicians luck!
