Prescott Planning and Zoning Commission Approves Commercial Rezones

On Monday the Prescott Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved to allow commercial and high-density development on a 58-acre parcel on the east side of Highway 69 north and south of Kachina Place.  Developers Rod Spray and Ron Jones have planned multi-family housing on the north side of the property and commercial/retail on the south side.  The plans were routinely approved by the commissioners, but a few were concerned about the proposed 70 foot maximum building heights.

Commissioners also endorsed two amendments on a 23 acre parcel near Bradshaw Mountain High School West.  A minor change to the general plan was approved changing the designation from a combination of low-density residential and public/quasi public to community commercial.  Approval was also given to rezone all 23 acres to commercial - the developer plans to entice businesses such as shops, restaurants and banks.

Traffic may pose an issue, but developers in both cases are excited about potential community benefits.  Studies on both parcels will continue.
